My eyeshadow palette collection

I love makeup. Not to change my features or how I look. I love makeup because it makes me feel good. Whether it is just mascara or a whole full face. The ritual of applying it, that time to myself, that’s part of why I love makeup. Today I am sharing with you my eyeshadow palette collection.

I am going to be honest, one of the things that (still) annoy me is when people see a pregnant woman wearing makeup and decide to say: “Oh, you just wait! Once that baby is here, you won’t use any of that ever again. Might as well give it all away now.” As if a baby means the end of the world! The baby is coming into our lives, not the other way around. There really is no need to go and throw all of your makeup away when you have a baby!

Sure, I haven’t worn much makeup in the last few months. However, it has less to do with the new baby and more to do with not really going out as much. I am one of those people who think wearing makeup when I am not going anywhere is a waste of product – and time. If I am just going to be at home, I don’t see a reason to put on makeup, unless I am taking photos or filming a video. When we go out, even if it is just me and B, I will put on makeup if I feel like it.

Compared to a lot of people, my eyeshadow palette collection is pretty small. Some wouldn’t even consider it a collection to begin with. I consider buying every single palette that launches a waste of money and product. So I choose to only really invest in those I know work with my complexion and that I will also actively use. Some I have used more, some less and some I love so much that I can’t imagine my makeup life without them.

Let me put it out there from the start: I am a huge Urban Decay lover! My affair with the brand started with the Naked 3, which I got back in January 2014. Since then I have gotten the Naked 2, Naked Ultimate Basics and the, unfortunately, failed purchases for me, Naked On the Run (which I have given away) and Naked Heat. The Naked 3, 2 and Ultimate Basics are still my most used palettes. The only reason Naked Heat was a failed purchase is that I can’t seem to find a way to make the colors work for me. Urban Decay has an unbeatable quality and I think I can say it is my favorite brand when it comes to eyeshadows!

I had been curious about Tarte Cosmetics for a while now and I finally took the chance last year when they had free shipping and ordered their Tartelette Tease eyeshadow palette. As you guys can see from the picture, the palette is tiny! While I do like it, its colors and quality, I feel like it is a bit expensive for the amount that you get. Nevertheless, it is the perfect size if you are traveling!

I love Sephora, it’s the one store I always have to go to when I visit Portugal. Why there is no Sephora in Austria is still beyond me, but then again Douglas is beyond amazing here and sucks in Portugal. My parents gifted me the triangle eyeshadow palette the Christmas before last. The colors are gorgeous and very wearable – my only complaint being that the white is very chalky. The shadows also don’t lack in quality and have a great color payoff! I was a bit skeptical if the triangle shaped pans would be problematic when picking up the shadows, but as long as you don’t use huge brushes, there are no issues with the shape.

Believe it or not, the palette on the left is actually from H&M! It’s called “Super Naturals Eye Colour Palette” and has gorgeous green tones that I absolutely love. Although the colors are gorgeous, its price (7€) reflects on the quality. The shadows aren’t the most pigmented out there, but definitely also not the worst I’ve encountered. They hold on pretty well with an eyeshadow primer underneath, but you won’t get a very vibrant eyeshadow look with this palette and the glitter on the shadows is also pretty chalky.

As I mentioned before, the Naked Heat palette was sort of a failed buy for me. I absolutely love the colors in it, but have simply not been able to make it work yet. I may be because of my hair color at the moment since it is lighter right now, but I guess time will tell. The other palette from my collection I haven’t used as much is the Cocoa Blend from Zoeva. The reason being that I feel like the quality of it just isn’t as good as everyone makes it be. Maybe I got a bad palette, the fact is the eyeshadows just don’t come off as vibrant as they should. Regardless if I use an eyeshadow primer or not, they come off much sheerer than I’d like. I love Zoeva when it comes to their brushes and would love to try some more of their makeup.

I know eight eyeshadow palettes aren’t a huge collection. However, I prefer to have fewer palettes that I actually wear than having a ton of things I don’t use. What is your favorite makeup brand? Let me know!

    Hey Rosie,

this is a very nice collection of yours! I‘m a fan of tarte cosmetics but I have to agree that the tartelette tease palette isn‘t their best eyeshadow palette ( I‘ve got 5 palettes of tarte and use that tiny palette not as often as the others). UD – omg, everytime when I see palette of this brand on others favorite lists or collection posts I‘m a little bit jealous and the thought of buing one comes in my mind again and again. Like #bloggersmademebuyit and! Hell, yeah – people should stop telling moms that they won‘t have time for make up… we do have time because we love to treat ourselfs with some mom-time in front of the mirror
